“The Power Snack program benefits children and families in our school district by providing nutritional snack options that families may not have previously considered or been able to afford,” said Teal Ferry, Student Support Services Coordinator for Southeast Valley High School in Gowrie.
On Wednesday, we visited Farnhamville Elementary with coupons but are back in Southeast Valley Jaguars territory as we just stopped at Dayton Elementary and Southeast Valley High School.
Through the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation, the Power Snack program supplies teachers and school districts with coupon booklets to put in the hands of students with food insecurity. Inside is a $5 coupon for deli meat and a $3 coupon for a loaf of whole wheat bread, along with easy-to-follow recipes.
In total, 1,000 coupon booklets will provide meals for many students within the district, as well as 200 pork sticks that bring instant nutritional value as a snack.
“This program provides an opportunity for many our families in the school to receive food they could use when their child is at home,” said Chelsey Danielson, Principal of Dayton Elementary.
