We know the sacrifice of our military does not end with the service member. When a service member leaves for a weekend, two weeks, months or years-long deployments, the family left behind has to adjust to a new normal. Children, spouses, partners, parents and friends look forward to welcoming home their service member the second after sending them off.
That day finally came for some families of the Iowa National Guard Redhorse Squadron on April 14, when nearly 100 soldiers returned from deployment in West Africa. The families waited with great anticipation, and with the help of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation, the children had some fun activities to pass the time.Through Project: Food and Fellowship, the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation sent 200 activity kits over to the Soldier and Family Readiness Services for the Cav1-113 Unit in LeMars. Each kit contained some candy, a coloring book and crayons, silly putty, slime, a magnetic drawing board and a deck of cards.
Hopefully those little hands and minds had plenty to do while waiting! You can watch more on this heartwarming welcome home, check out this story on CBS14 Siouxland News.
