“Well, that was easier than I thought it was going to be. I even brought my work gloves!” That’s the statement that our Haul Out Hunger crew heard after we quickly unloaded 20 cases of loins at the Grundy Center Food Pantry. It was no easy feat, but after two days and nearly 20,000 pounds of pork delivered, you could say that we’re getting into the swing of things!
“This donation is just such a blessing,” said Jaynie Mason, who is a full-time employee of Operation Threshold, which sponsors the local food pantry. “Every year we can’t hardly believe that we get to place a large order for pork loins and it seems like just the next day it shows up on our front step, and with all of these smiles nonetheless. It’s just too good to be true!”
As one of the main relief organizations in Grundy County, Operation Threshold offers a variety of services and resources to local community members including access to affordable housing, crisis services, heating assistance, childhood development programs and much more.
“Our clients typically can’t afford to incorporate protein-packed products like this into their diets, so this donation is really appreciated,” said Ty Timmer, another full-time employee at Operation Threshold. “This is just too cool!”
Summer can be a busy time for the Grundy County Food Pantry and they typically see an increase in the number of clients they meet with. “We serve anywhere from 60-80 families in the area, roughly 300 people total,” explained Jaynie. “We don’t really advertise our services. Most of our clients come as a referral, calling us for more information or simply by word-of-mouth. I’m sure our phones are going to be ringing off the hook once they hear about the 240 pork loins that just came to town!”
Thanks to Jaynie, Ty and all of the employees at Operation Threshold and the Grundy County Food Pantry for all of the work that you do to make life more affordable and enjoyable in Grundy County. #HaulOutHunger#BillionPlus
