MATURA Outreach, Mount Ayr

junio 22, 2016

It was a family affair in Mount Ayr when several ladies and their children and grandchildren helped our delivery crew unload 15 cases off pork loins off the semi-truck, all donated by the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation and Iowa Select Farms. According to these volunteers at the Ringgold County MATURA organization, their outreach efforts serve 50 families each month, however this number is on the rise. “This pork loin donation will help these families a lot because it gives them a nutritious and wholesome option,” said one volunteer.

According to Feeding America, there are 660 people in Ringgold County who are food insecure, meaning they are being forced to make tough decisions about providing food for their families or paying their rent or mortgage, paying for transportation, or paying for medical bills. “These are choices that no one should have to make,” said another volunteer. “Every little bit helps, and these pork loins will provide some much-needed relief for many families in this area.”

MATURA is the region’s primary agency for services striving to eliminate the causes and conditions of poverty and serves the counties of Madison, Adams, Taylor, Union, Ringgold and Adair, keep following our journey and you’ll see we hit other MATURA outreach centers throughout southern Iowa. ‪#‎billionpounds‬
