Randy enlisted in the Army in 1977 and completed basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey, then NIT training at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.

After training, he did his first tour in Germany, where he was a mechanic, traveling to the units to repair and service their tanks, jeeps and trucks. Upon return, he was stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana.

Randy relisted and was trained at Fort Riley, Kansas and was then sent back to Germany for a second tour, this time as an E5 Sergeant overseeing a team of 4-5 soldiers. Together, they traveled to fix tanks, trucks and jeeps and replaced engines in all vehicles.

Randy has good memories from his years of service, especially seeing places like New Orleans, where he experienced Mardi Gras, and then skiing in Paris, France.

Today, he’s an animal caretaker at Qualley Boar Stud, located near Dows. Randy and his wife, Julie, live in Alden.
