“It’s a place to call home,” said Brooke Heldt, Community Engagement Coordinator for the YMCA Supportive Housing Campus. “And home means a safe place where there is something to eat.”
The first stop for Mrs. Claus and Elf Lori was the YMCA, where they delivered six cases of five-pound pork loins into the YMCA Supportive Housing kitchen. According to Brooke, residents will receive the pork loins as a Christmas gift. At supportive housing, many residents often cook their own meals, learning valuable cooking skills they can carry with them throughout life.

“Meals fulfills the promise we have to our residents to treat them with dignity and respect, and above all lift them up and give them hope,” said Heldt. “We’re grateful for the donation, and will certainly be preparing several nourishing meals with the pork, it will be a treat for the residents.”

The YMCA Supportive Housing Campus is a community solution to help eliminate homelessness by providing hope, dignity, and support in the form of permanent supportive housing.

This Housing First Model helps people who are homeless (or at-risk of homelessness) move into stable and secure permanent housing supplemented by supportive services.
Case management, transportation assistance, food/clothing/hygiene pantries, rental assistance and other services help people meet their basic needs and reach their life goals.
