Haul Out Hunger— Iowa Falls

June 28, 2019

Group celebrates with boxes and smiles indoors.

This year during Haul Out Hunger, 700 pork loins were delivered for Iowa Falls-based pantries, churches and food-assistance organizations that work to end hunger in Hardin County. The loins will provide approximately 12,600 servings of pork for area families in-need.

Pork Loins

We visited the Methodist Church, Ruth Project, Hardin County Friendship Club, Lions Club and Mid-Iowa Community Action. In total, 700 pork loins were delivered for Iowa Falls-based pantries, churches and food-assistance organizations that work to end hunger in Hardin County. The loins will provide approximately 12,600 servings of pork for area families in-need.

“We so appreciate how accommodating they are to us and also for Iowa Select Farms to make such a generous donation,” said Marian Gehrls of the Iowa Falls Lions Club. “With this donation, we are going to feed so many families in Hardin County.

As many know, pork is rich in nutrients that are imperative to both the physical and cognitive development of children. A 4-ounce serving of pork is an excellent source of protein, potassium and zinc.

“Most, if not all, of the families we serve are low income,” explained Mary Nelson of the Friendship Club. “Protein is very important in the diets of everyone, but meat is expensive and most of our clients can’t afford to buy it. Everyone looks forward to the visit from the Iowa Select Farms semi-truck because they know it means one thing–fresh pork!”
