Dike Food Pantry— Haul Out Hunger

June 27, 2019

Haul Out Hunger’s visit to Grundy County also included a stop to the Dike United Methodist Church where we met up with Shelley Viet, who coordinates the Dike Food Pantry along with her husband and local volunteers.

“We rely on church staff and volunteers to help keep our shelves stocked and support our clients,” said Shelley. “It’s definitely a big responsibility, but our volunteers have a desire to serve and better our community.”

During our visits today, Haul Out Hunger donated 180 pork loins to Grundy County—enough to provide 3,240 protein-packed, hearty servings of pork.

“Fresh meat like this is extremely hard to come by,” said Shelley. “Our clients really appreciate this donation for a delicious, healthy summer meal. We are so grateful for this timely donation.”

Like many other pantries, Dike is fortunate to receive a lot of local support.

“Recently the high schoolers held a chili fundraiser to purchase 50 crockpots for local at-risk families,” explained Shelley. “Families that received them were so appreciative and they definitely come in handy when cooking up these large pork loins.”

The Dike Food Pantry is open five days a week from 9AM to Noon and on average serves 12 families in the community.
