Haul Out Hunger: Hancock County Learning Center, Britt

June 26, 2018

“We work on a very tight budget and meat is very expensive,” said Amy Trask of the Hancock county Learning Center in Britt. “It is an excellent source of protein for the children and needed for nutrition, but it isn’t always easy to fit into the budget. This donation is going to make a big difference.”

Since opening its doors two years ago, the Hancock County Learning Center has strived to provide a quality, safe environment that parents feel comfortable leaving their children.

“We pride ourselves on providing excellent childcare so parents can go to work and provide for their families,” explained Amy. “We rely on 15 paid individuals every single day.”

This was the first year that the Iowa Select Farms’ semi paid a visit to the Hancock Learning Center and boy, are we sure glad we did! In total, our Haul Out Hunger Crew unloaded 20 cases of loins for the children that attend the local daycare.

“This donation is such a blessing for us and the families we serve,” continue Amy. “We couldn’t hardly believe when we got the phone call that this was a no-strings attached donation. It seemed too good to be true, but we are so thankful.”

Although it’s only been open for a short period of time, the Hancock Learning Center serves 72 families in Britt and the surrounding area.

“We feed children and low income families,” explained Amy. “About 50% of the families we serve qualify for free and/or reduced lunch, so this donation of pork loins is definitely a blessing for our community.”
