Way to go Cherokee FFA Chapter members! These students volunteered their time to shop and organize meal kits for families in need.

“We were delighted to have the opportunity to help some people in need during the holiday season,” said Jess Tuttle, Reporter for the FFA chapter.

Cherokee FFA was one of 40 student-based organizations that participated in the Ignite the Spirit program offered by Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation.
Jess said their team divided up the duties. One team picked up the pork loins while others determined the meal and ingredients.

The meal consisted of box potatoes, Jell-O, cookie mix, canned veggies, canned fruit, rice packets and instant stuffing.
Students delivered the meals to their local Mid-Sioux Food Pantry where they would go to local families in time for Christmas.

Ignite the Spirit is an extension of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation’s Operation Christmas Meal program and is aimed at increasing awareness of hunger locally and igniting the spirit of service by giving local student groups the tools—pork!—to help even more families during the holiday season.

As part of the program, FFA chapters and 4-H clubs also receive event kits with aprons and masks along with a check for $250 to purchase additional food for the meal. #IgniteTheSpirit
